Girls spend a day with Miss South Africa 2015

SANDTON – Varsity College Sandton recently provided a group of girls with the wonderful opportunity of spending the day with Miss South Africa 2015, Liesl Laurie.

Oratile Matlapeng of Varsity College Sandton, said the girls, aged between six and 14, received a once-in-lifetime opportunity and spent an afternoon with Laurie.

He added that the initiative was part of Varsity College Sandton’s annual Princess for a Day event. This year, the event was held for 20 orphaned and vulnerable girls from Afrika Tikkun, an outreach programme based in Alexandra.

“We wanted to show the girls that they are special and are created for a purpose,” said Varsity College Sandton student relations manager, Vasanthee Govender.

“The day was really aimed at pampering and spoiling these beautiful and wonderfully talented girls. We hope Miss South Africa inspired them and that they know they can be whatever they dream of.”

Matlapeng said the girls enjoyed the unforgettable experience of being pampered by Miss South Africa and the Varsity College Sandton student volunteer body, VC Cares. This included receiving a mini-facial and manicure.

He said Laurie also gave the girls a princess lesson, where she taught the girls how to walk and gave them a pep talk on the importance of staying in school and education.

“Afterwards, it was the little princesses’ turn to demonstrate their modelling abilities before being sashed and being crowned VC Princess for a Day by Miss South Africa 2015,” explained Matlapeng.

“She also honoured each girl with a glittering princess’ wand.”

He added that the little princesses enjoyed a luncheon after participating in all the fun activities which included bead-making and cupcake decorating.

“The event ended with each little princess receiving a goodie bag and a present from Varsity College.”
