‘Angels’ brighten up Thusong centre

ALEXANDRA – Kiddies at the Thusong Community Centre in Alexandra received a special treat when summer blankets, food parcels and clothing were donated to the centre.

The donation was spearheaded by office furniture manufacturer, Angel Shack and saw more than 850 items donated to the youth centre to help them usher in the new season.

Joy Turnbull, managing director of sales at Angel Shack, explained the significance of the company doing something of this nature for young people.

“South Africa’s youth are vital to help us create positive change for the years that lie ahead, and as a forward thinking and game-changing brand, it made perfect sense for us to partner with the centre and help the children as much as we can,” she said.

“Today’s spring celebration is not just a once-off event, it will be sustained with on-going financial contributions, calendar events throughout the years and regular visits from our maintenance team.”

The company, based in Woodmead, also provided the centre with ‘maintenance angels’ who will help with building maintenance at the centre.

Established in 1979, Thusong provides food, educational training, and cultural and sporting facilities to more than 2 000 children from the ages of four to 25.

The youth centre is also involved in a number of community projects including sewing, computer skills, public speaking and visual arts.
