Suspects arrested after high-speed chase

ILLOVO - Police arrested three armed suspects on the corner of Bompas Road and Fricker Road, Illovo, following a high-speed chase on 23 August.

Provincial spokesperson for the police, Doniah Mothutsane said at about 11.30am the Johannesburg Flying Squad received information that a vehicle had been hijacked in Rabie Ridge, and was moving along Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park. The police followed up on the information and spotted the vehicle in Bompas Road.

Mothutsane added, “The suspects noticed the police following them and drove at high speed. The police gave chase, and the suspects stopped their vehicle and attempted to run on foot. The police managed to arrest all three suspects.”

The suspects were found in possession of three firearms with the serial numbers filed off.

Mothutsane said the suspects, who were between the ages of 25 and 32, were detained at Bramley Police Station.

“They will appear in court facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and for hijacking a vehicle,” she said.
