October is car-free month for Sandton

SANDTON - The countdown to the start of the EcoMobility World Festival 2015 is underway in Sandton.

A number of roads in Sandton will be marked car-free zones as part of the festival’s road closure plans for the month of October.

This according to reports following an explanation by City of Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor Parks Tau on how October’s car-free month will work in Sandton.

Maude Street, West Street and Alice Lane are just some of the streets that will be closed to private car use. However, reports also stated that alternative transport would include park and rides in nearby areas, and commuters could make use of tuk-tuks, pedicabs and electric vehicles.

Additional public transport will include new Metro buses, and there will be pop-up cycle lanes.

Arrangements will be made possible for deliveries, waste removal, emergency vehicles and the disabled.
