6 things you didn’t know about lefties!

JOHANNESBURG – It’s International Left-Handers Day, so we’ve come up with an interesting list of things you didn’t know about them.

Lefties have had quite a bit of bad press. Although there’s no way to know for sure, it’s believed that the devil is left handed. In many paintings, he supposedly baptizes with his left hand, while Christian churches perform blessings with the right.

Another downer … In the past, left-handedness was seen as the mark of the devil, a sign of rebellion and criminal activities. A number of highly-publicised murderers were also left handed, including the Boston Strangler, Jack the Ripper and even Osama Bin Laden.

However, it gets better! A number of well-known celebrities are proudly left handed. Angelina Jolie, Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and even former South African Prime Minister Frederik de Klerk, the President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta and famous writers Stan Lee and RL Stine, author of Goosebumps.

It seems left-handedness may be the secret to success!

It’s also reported that St Lawrence University in New York performed an IQ study and discovered that there were more left-handed people with IQs over 140. Albert Einstein was a leftie … #justsaying.

Left-handed people make better artists. Reports reveal that lefties are more drawn to the creative side of things, where right-handed people tend to be more logical and science based. However, research shows that lefties tend to be scared of more things and are quick to get angry.

Lefties do have one other thing going for them!

Researchers have suggested that in one-on-one combat, throwing a left-handed punch brings the element of surprise. It’s also reported that studies in primitive societies found that lefties are more likely to survive and thrive.

Lefties unite!
