POLICE WARNING: Criminals jam remote controlled gates

SANDTON – The Sandton community is advised to be careful when they open their remote controlled gates.

This according to Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk of Sandton police, who said there was a new modus operandi in which criminals cover residents’ gate sensors with black insulation or duct tape.

“What happens is when the gate opens it doesn’t close as the sensor detects a blockage of the signal,” explained De Klerk.

“Victims are then followed inside their property and it makes it easy for the criminals to leave after they have committed their crime.”
