SA Fashion Week coming soon

JOBURG - Top South African designers came together at a fashion institution of sorts to discuss the new and old in the fashion industry for 2015 and 2016.

Lucilla Booyzen, director of South African Fashion Week (SAFW), graced the people of Sandton City with her fashionable presence and took time out of her busy schedule to introduce the fashion world  to just a few of the designers who create the industry.

Edgars was a hub of sights and sounds, with fashion designers and collaborators attending the SAFW and Edgars collaboration extravaganza.

Booyzen explained to the crowd why she developed such an intense love affair with the industry she lives and works in – fashion.

“It’s vibrant, it’s incredibly creative, it is evolving, exciting and it’s not political – that is the most incredible thing about fashion,” she said.

“It goes across all culture groups and is not linked to any political issues or ideas. That is really why I am in fashion, and of course, because I am in love with the designers. I love each and every one of the designers and it is a love that started more than 30 years ago.”

Edgars is known for stocking the ranges of in-house and out-sourced designers, but since partnering with fashion week, Mantsho designer, Palesa Mokubung, explained that large franchise clothing outlets give designers a platform to show their collections on a runway as well as to the people.

The designers exhibited a small range of SAFW clothing which were paired with Edgars brands to create chic, fashionable everyday wear for fashion experts, and even people who wouldn’t consider themselves particularly fashionable.

“South Africa has phenomenal talent,” Jen Su, international socialite and jetsetter acknowledged South African fashion and its designers for all the hard work they’ve put in to make the industry one of the most fertile and prosperous ones in the country.

Easy to wear is the style for the warmer 2015 and 2016 seasons, so whip out some denim and put it on more denim, get out your Mandela shirts and African print, and rock those barely-there sandals, because winter is almost gone and SAFW is almost here.
