Police treated to massages

CRAIGHALL – The spirit of giving lingered as Hands on Retreat, a 4-star boutique retreat spa, once again honoured the late Nelson Mandela by treating the police and those who help the community to head and neck massages.

The company, based in Craighall, recently visited the Randburg Police Station to play their part for the 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative. It takes part in the initiative every year and has visited the Parkview Police Station for the past two years.

Martina Laurie, chief executive officer of the retreat, explained that the company was privileged to be able to play their part in honouring the late icon. “The 67 minutes for Mandela Day is an important initiative and the meaning behind it is something we continue to subscribe to daily,” she said. She added that the therapy was a way to thank the officers for their contribution and work in the community.

Head of administration at the station, Grietjie Botha, expressed gratitude for the massages and thanked the company for making the day a special one. “[It was] an awesome experience; the massage filled me with energy to do my job [and] the therapists were awesome, friendly and beautiful,” she said.

Other charitable activities by the wellness company on the day included a collaboration with Woolworths stores in the Western Cape to support volunteers who were handing out food to communities and those tasked with looking after children at the Footsteps Educare Centre in the Du Noon informal settlement.
