Homeless Talk vendor bags a job

SANDTON - Bernard Selabe, a vendor for Homeless Talk, was recently featured in the Sandton Chronicle and has now realised his dream of working in the construction industry after starting his first day of work at RBA Homes on 27 July.

After seeing the initial article about Selabe, who was living along the Braamfontein Spruit after moving from Mpumalanga, head of sales and marketing at RBA Homes, Daniel Esterhuyse, found and contacted the 27-year-old who expressed interest in working in the construction industry. Established in 1997, RBA Homes is a property development company which operates all around Gauteng and employs individuals on a permanent basis.

Esterhuyse, and head of human resources Alwyn Grobler, met Selabe on 24 July.

“He seemed like a very keen guy who wanted to find a permanent job and a sense of security. He came out of three years of traumatic living conditions in his time in Gauteng, so we wanted to see if we could make a difference in his life,” said Grobler.

Selabe has started working in the outdoor marketing section of the company. Grobler added that the marketing work is temporary until a new construction site opens for Selabe to fully experience the field he shows a keen interest in.

“I am so happy for this opportunity to work and it has really changed my life,” said Selabe. He expressed his deepest gratitude towards RBA Homes for the opportunity.
