Property stolen in Sandton found in Midrand

RABIE RIDGE - Four men and a woman were arrested after they were found in possession of stolen motor vehicles, ammunition, firearms, jewellery and a cellphone.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo said the male suspects were aged between 22 and 45, and the woman, 29.

“At about 8pm on 26 July Rabie Ridge police received a call from Sandton police that there was a house robbery in Sandton and a stolen cellphone signal was being picked up in Rabie Ridge,” said Nhlongo.

“The suspects allegedly stole an iPad, cellphone, [Audi] Q5 motor vehicle, jewellery and laptops.”

A signal from the stolen cellphone was picked up in Klipfontein Ext 3. Police went to a nearby tavern where they searched the patrons. They then received a tip-off that they should search a house opposite the tavern. As they approached the house, occupants in a white Hyundai Getz were about to drive off the property. Officers stopped the vehicle with two men inside and found a box full of jewellery in the car. The men were taken into the house where police found two other suspects in possession of laptops.

A further search in the house revealed more car keys. After investigating, police established that a gold Jetta 4 on the property was a stolen vehicle, a white diesel BMW had been hijacked in April this year and a gold Kia Sportage with false registration numbers had been hijacked in July.

Firearms were also recovered at the scene.

The suspects will appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of stolen vehicles, possession of firearms, live ammunition and stolen property.
