MTN fibre network rolled out in Parkmore

PARKMORE – The community of Parkmore has some exciting infrastructural developments underway, courtesy of cellphone network MTN.

This according to Kate Wardle, deputy chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association who said the community is excited by MTN’s fibre network roll-out in the area.

“We are working closely with MTN as they roll out their fibre in Parkmore and it has been quite exciting, working… with MTN, the infrastructure suppliers Huawei and their sub-contractors Strakz,” said Wardle.

She said the community has been meeting with MTN for the past six weeks for an overview of the developments. “The fibre committee has been working really hard to ensure that the roll out is as smooth as possible and that MTN agrees to an open access network,” Wardle said. She added that an open access network is important from a competition and pricing point of view.

Networking fibre.

“MTN South Africa is committed to an open access network environment in which it supplies world-class fibre infrastructure for service providers to offer residential customers solutions that provide high-speed Internet connectivity,” said Eben Albertyn, chief technology officer of MTN South Africa.

Wardle added, “I think its super exciting for Parkmore and I can’t wait until we get fibre to our homes.”

She said the next step was installing boundary boxes. “It’s quite interesting how they have to float fibre through all the cables. I didn’t realise until recently that it is actually glass resin and that is what enables the data to travel so fast,” explained Wardle.

Every home is expected to be connected over the next year or so.

A call centre has also been set up to tackle any issues residents might have.
