Security guards arrested after suspect is shot

SANDTON - Two security guards recently appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court on attempted murder charges after they allegedly shot a suspect who was linked to a crime in Sandton.

The shooting took place early in July in Gallo Manor when police received information about a housebreaking incident and followed up on it.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Sandton police, officers arrived at the scene and found the security guards and three suspects, with one suspect injured.

“The police proceeded to ask the security guards if they had shot the suspect, which they denied before the injured suspect stated that he had been shot by one of the guards,” he said.

The injured suspect had been shot in his stomach and was taken to hospital, while the other suspects were arrested and detained by Sandton police. Maphakela confirmed that the security guards have been charged with attempted murder. The case continues.
