Couple and their gardener tied up and robbed

STRATHAVON - A couple and their gardener were tied up in Strathavon by three armed robbers who ransacked their home and stole their vehicle.

This according to victim, Bjorn Hufkie who wants to warn his neighbours to be vigilant so as to not fall victim to this sort of crime.

He said his gardener was opening the garage door when three armed men pounced on him and pushed him into the house. Hufkie added that the men alighted from a grey BMW 7 series.

“My wife was in bed sleeping and I was looking after my 10-month-old baby,” said Hufkie.

“They walked in and pointed a gun right at me and my baby, and went to the bedroom to get my wife.”

He said the suspects tied him up with the gardener and left them in one of the rooms. “They ransacked our house and put all the stuff they took into my wife’s car and drove off with it,” explained Hufkie.

“They must have been watching us because the police said there had been similar armed robbery incidents in the area.”

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said an armed robbery case had been opened with the Sandton police. “There is still an investigation pending,” he added.

No arrests have been made.
