The crime took place in Morningside when according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton police, the complainant heard movement from behind while she was busy speaking on her phone.
“The suspect then proceeded to grab her phone and made off with it before being apprehended,” he said.
The suspect was taken to the Sandton Police Station where he was charged with common robbery.
Maphakela added that the suspect had previously been convicted of two other cases of theft, and the possession of suspected stolen goods.
He confirmed that the suspect had since appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. The case continues.
