Geeks together for animals

PAULSHOF - A total of 12 volunteers from No More Suffering (NMS) turned themselves into zombies on 4 July for the GeekFest 2015 Zombie Run to raise money for the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic based in Paulshof.

NMS, a non-profit animal rights organisation, felt that the run, which represents a mock apocalypse, was an appropriate vehicle to raise awareness around animal rights. They believe that unless decisive action is taken to put a stop to animal cruelty, then non-human animal species will be subject to an apocalyptic extinction.

“We saw the event as a fun way… to raise awareness of the devastation being wreaked on this planet [by humans],’ said NMS director Tricia Davis.

Volunteers spent time before the run handing out flyers and talking to people about how to take action in their own lives by being more compassionate and choosing cruelty-free products.

“We feel that the zombie apocalypse draws a stark parallel to what is happening to animals through poaching, canned hunting and trapping, to name but a few,” said Davis.

The organisation is calling on support in a bid to increase their reach. Anyone wishing to collaborate should go to the website.
