Morningside Country Club hosts Bastille Day

MORNINGSIDE - The French celebration of Bastille Day takes place at the Morningside Country Club on 11 July.

Bastille Day is a French National Day commemorating the beginning of the French Revolution with the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrates the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790.

The event kicks off at 11.30am and lunch facilities will be available as well as a cash bar.

There will be free French onion soup throughout the afternoon, and an introductory game of pétanque.

Pétanque, a popular form of boules, is played with three metal balls per person and a target called a cochonnet, which is literally a piglet, or jack.

The event is open to the public. Anybody is welcome to enter as a single player or a team of two. On the day, single players will be paired.

There will be prizes and more up for grabs on the day.
