Lack of resources listed as a major concern at CPF meeting

SANDTON - FOLLOWING the recent re-election of the Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) Sector 4 committee, the sector hosted its first monthly meeting.

The meeting took place on 26 June and saw a range of issues brought to light including the lack of resources within the police cluster.

Andrew McMurray, re-elected chairperson of the sub-forum, highlighted the lack of resources within the Sandton Police Station’s visible policing division as a cause for concern. “The lack of resources, specifically vehicles, is a major problem in the cluster, [with the] Sandton Police Station’s Vispol [the visible policing department] only having four vehicles for the whole precinct; this is unacceptable,” he said.

McMurray also highlighted a positive side, adding that the station’s reaction time to crime incidents was the best within the cluster which was good news for the sector.

Also raised by McMurray was the issue of communities ensuring that their fire hydrants had been serviced and checked, and he recommended that communities map where hydrants are located in the suburb.

“These hydrants have to be serviced and checked annually and [they] should have stickers on them [to show this],” he said.

The meeting also saw a report from the security companies working in the sector, and a report from the Sector 4 commander.

The meeting concluded with a plea to residents to contribute towards the forum, as it is always in need of donations and funds as a volunteer organisation.

The next meeting is scheduled for 23 July at the New Church, Muller St. South, Buccleuch at 6.30pm. It was also agreed that the Sector 4 CPF sub-forum meetings will commence at 6.30pm in future.
