Men’s health issues tackled at Tara Hospital

HURLINGHAM - Tara Hospital hosted a group of men who gathered at the hospital in Hurlingham for the annual men’s health all-day session.

The event was aimed at tackling and discussing issues that affect the health of men everywhere.

Men’s Clinic International, Old Mutual and Moshate Men’s Rights Organisation formed part of the activities on the day.

Larry Chakombera of Men’s Clinic International highlighted one of the most sensitive issues to men around the world as well as one of the main challenges that face men of today. He focused on sexual problems and encouraged the men to be open about their sexuality. Chakombera also advised the men to not shy away from seeking medical help for their sexual issues.

Mike Ramothata of Old Mutual addressed the issue of financial problems that men of today face in society. He informed the audience on the various financial investment plans that are in place for them to plan ahead and secure a financially stable future for themselves and their familes.

“Financial problems are one of the core challenges affecting men’s health,” he explained. “It can even end up taking one’s life because men are like tigers, they don’t cry”. He said men choose to suffer inside and do not ask for help or assistance with their respective problems.

Ramothata further encouraged the group to take the initiative and be a part of a men’s group where male challenges they face can be discussed in a communal setting with other men like themselves.

He then announced that Old Mutual is currently looking at introducing an awards ceremony in the near future, celebrating the achievement of men at work and in their communities.

Mashilo Mnisi of Moshate Men’s Rights Organisation shocked the audience when he revealed the stats on how male domestic violence is on the rise. He encouraged men to stop hiding behind the banner of ‘men don’t cry’. “You must learn to speak out when victimised,” he added.

Mnisi also encouraged the men to join campaigns against human abuse irrespective of the gender. “If men can seek help, a number of suicides can be minimised.”
