Henley hosts family friendly event

PAULSHOF - Henley Business School Africa hosted its monthly Family Friendly event for the institution’s current Master of Business Administration (MBA) students on 20 June with special guest and internationally-recognised speaker, Robin Booth.

The event was held as a way for their MBA students to involve their families in their learning experience. Dean of Henley Business School South Africa Jon Foster-Pedley said, “The bedrock of society is the family. To be successful in business does not only mean financial success but also having a balance in social and family life.

“Henley’s MBA creates an environment where people are able to grow in all areas of their lives. We want families to be involved, provide support and grow as well.”

Booth, who has worked with celebrities such as Al Pacino and Jack Welch, spoke to the students, their parents and alumni about the crucial role positive parenting played in the student’s studies by reducing stress.

He said the solution lay in raising parents’ and childrens’ emotional intelligence, growing self-esteem and changing the small things.

He also urged parents to identify their child’s personality traits and strengths in an attempt to nurture these from an early age. This could be achieved through a good, strong system of communication at home.

“You can easily develop your skills in communication, which will result in increased affinity to the other person, and you can develop structures and skills to understand their world better which will result in increased affinity,” concluded Booth.
