Alex’s most successful SPCA dog day, ever

ALEXANDRA - The Sandton SPCA is delighted as it held one of its most successful dog days ever in Alexandra.

The Sandton SPCA Mobile Clinic held a dog day at Marlboro Primary School and the turnout was so amazing that the SPCA rated it as the biggest one yet in Alexandra.

“On 20 June, the SPCA vet staff and a cold, but eager team of volunteers loaded up their vehicles and the Sandton SPCA Mobile Clinic was on the move to Marlboro Primary School… near Alexandra for a morning of education and care providing for the surrounding community,” said Candice Scorer, general manager of the Sandton SPCA.

The clinic provided 5-in-1 vaccines against various diseases to over 400 dogs, as well as rabies vaccines, food, bedding, collars and leads and other important and necessary animal enrichment items.

“Our mobile clinic has been in existence for over five years but requires full-time funding, which currently we do not have. Days like these are made possible through generous donations from individuals,” Scorer said.

“This particular day was sponsored in memory of Nancy Brown, a great animal lover and huge supporter of the Sandton SPCA who recently lost her battle with cancer.”

The volunteers set out to educate animal owners and handed out cups of hot chocolate while they spent some time with each pet owner talking about how they can improve things for their animal, what to look out for with regards to illnesses and when to visit the SPCA shelter.

“This clinic was a huge success, and without the support of our community and donors, these impactful days would not be possible,” she said, announcing that the Sandton SPCA will hold mobile clinic days in Hillbrow as well as Troyeville in an effort to widen the reach and impact on the community.

She appealed to interested sponsors who would like to finance one of these days, or those willing to assist in keeping the clinic running on a day-to-day basis, to come forward.
