Armed alarms, even in the dark

CRIMINALS BEWARE: Theunis Kotze warns that security systems stay on in the dark.

But Theunis Kotze, general manager of ADT’s Inland region said this did not have to be the case if households were equipped with security systems. “Most modern alarm systems have a back-up battery that activates automatically when there is a power failure,” he said.

Kotze gives tips on how to stay safe in the dark:

Regularly test your alarm systems to ensure that it is in working order; most times a faulty alarm system is caused by a bad battery.
Ensure that all automated gates are securely locked.
If there is an additional battery pack in your alarm system, then small non-intrusive LED lights may be installed into the circuitry, providing up to 40 hours of light.
As per usual, report any suspicious activity to the police or alert your security company.
