Cellphone thief busted

SANDTON - The Bramley police arrested a cellphone thief in Sandton.

Spokesperson for the Bramley police Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the suspect stole a cellphone worth R2 000 from a woman who was walking with her child on Grayston Drive, Sandton.

“She was talking on her cellphone when the man grabbed the phone from her ear and ran away into the bushes,” he said. Maphakela added that security officers operating in the area later contacted the Bramley police after they spotted the suspect running away and eventually caught and arrested him. “He was searched and the police found a knife on him,” said Maphakela.

The suspect was arrested and the cellphone was returned to its rightful owner.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
