Sandton Islamic Association’s blanket drive a success

SANDTON - The Sandton Islamic Association's blanket distribution, with a massive 1 200 blankets distributed across Johannesburg, was a huge success this year.

The distribution took place over three different days in June, with the first one on June 5 when community members went out in their numbers to provide 350 homeless people with warm blankets and soup in Sandton and Fordsburg.

The association continued with their distribution on June 15 when over 75 volunteers from the association took to the streets of Sandton and Johannesburg to seek out the homeless and needy, managing to distribute over 400 blankets during the evening.

The association then had their last distribution on June 16, making it a Youth Day initiative, where they arranged a handover of 350 blankets to the elderly in Diepsloot. The successful handover was done in conjunction with representatives of the Diepsloot Community Forum and the City of Johannesburg.

The Sandton Islamic Association is a community-driven organisation based at 94 Coleraine Drive, Duxberry.
