Generators are here to stay

SANDTON - Residents using generators are advised to comply with the City of Johannesburg's noise bylaws.

Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart said he has noticed an increase in complaints about noisy generators.

“Obviously, with load shedding set to continue for the foreseeable future, generators are here to stay,” said Stewart.

“However, residents should make use of mufflers or other methods to reduce the noise of the generators, not just as a courtesy to their neighbours, but also to ensure that they comply with noise bylaws.”

The City bylaws state that to make, produce or cause a disturbing noise, or allow it to be made, produced or caused by any person, animal, machine, device or apparatus or any combination thereof is eligible for a R1 000 fine.
