Housebreaking in Morningside Manor

MORNINGSIDE - THE South African Police Service and private security company Securitas celebrated a success on the morning of 11 June after a reported attempted robbery in Morningside Manor.

Managing director of Securitas, Sean Kinsey said, “Our preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown number of male suspects gained access into the main driveway of a residence by derailing the gate using a foreign object.”

The suspects proceeded to drive into the premises in a white Nissan Almera, and then allegedly forced open the back door of the main house before tying up the domestic worker.

Kinsey added, “When the owner arrived home, he saw the white vehicle in the driveway and heard the domestic worker shouting for help, which he escalated to the Securitas 24-hour security control room.”

Police and Securitas response vehicles soon arrived, leaving the suspects surrounded with no route to escape. They then allegedly tried to hold the domestic worker hostage and escape the scene on foot. However, two of the suspects were apprehended by Securitas, while one other was arrested by the police.

Provincial spokesperson for the police, Lungelo Dlamini added, “Three suspects were arrested. Police also fired several shots to stop one of the suspects who tried to escape, but no one was injured. The suspects will be charged with attempted house robbery when they appear at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.”
