Wear your slippers to make a child’s dream come true

ROSEBANK - THE Reach For A Dream Foundation is encouraging all South Africans to swap their regular work or school shoes for their favourite pair of slippers on 7 August.

“We encourage children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses to believe in their dreams and to believe that tomorrow is worth fighting for. We also believe in creating happy moments that will impact the lives of severely ill children, leaving them and their families with special memories,” marketing and communications manager for the foundation, Bronwyn Feldwick stated.

CEO Julia Sotirianakos said, “We are proud to announce that we’re launching the Slipper Day website. Simply log on to the website and purchase your R10 sticker to show your support on your Facebook profile, Twitter profile and Instagram.

“We are grateful for the support from our retail partner Wimpy. Our target for the year is R4 million and the money that is raised will be used to fulfill a child’s dream.”

The launch of the website was held at Tsogo Sun’s 54 on Bath on 10 June and was attended by many supporters of the foundation.

Digital Arts Network’s Gillian Read said that creating a new home online for Slipper Day was essential, so they built a website for people to log on to easily, buy their stickers and upload their stickers on their desktops with pride. “You can buy up to five stickers,” said Read.

Local celebrities Sophie Ndaba and Brent Lindeque were in attendance and were excited to be representing Slipper Day as the ambassadors for this year and to lend their support. Ndaba said, “Being an orphan myself, I do believe in the importance of changing a child’s life; the little bit that we contribute can make a huge difference.

“We should motivate the children to believe in themselves and I believe that if I could do it, they can too. We must support children to be whatever they want to be and make their dreams come true.”

The Reach For A Dream Foundation grants you the ‘right’ to wear your slippers to work or school on 7 August if you purchase a Slipper Sticker for only R10. Stickers are available at all Wimpy restaurants countrywide from 1 July. Alternatively you can purchase a ‘twibbon’ online at www.slipperday.co.za or at any of the seven Reach For A Dream branches countrywide.

Wimpy will be giving all customers a free cup of coffee when they purchase their Slipper Day sticker and customers who visit wimpy outlets on 7 August wearing their slippers and Slipper Day sticker will also receive a free Wimpy coffee as a thank you for supporting the initiative.

Slipper Day is a fun way for people to contribute a small amount of money and make a huge difference in a child’s life.
