Suspect shot and wounded in attempted hijacking

MARLBORO - The victim of an attempted hijacking on the London Road offramp of the N3 highway shot and wounded one of three suspects at around 1pm on 20 June.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu said it is alleged a 40-year-old-man was travelling with a seven-year-old child in the car when they were stopped by the three suspects who pointed two firearms at the victims and demanded the vehicle. Mngomezulu said, “[The victim] got out of the vehicle and asked the suspects to release the child. He then fired shots at them and wounded one.”

He said the two armed suspects fled the scene on foot and police are looking for them while the suspect who sustained wounds is under police guard while he is receiving medical attention. He is charged with a case of attempted hijacking.
