JOBURG - It's official, the new technology to be released by Apple will allow Standard Bank to offer its customers intelligent banking from their watch.

Apple and Standard Bank are introducing a banking first to South Africa with the implementation of their unique biometric-enabled banking application, which is set to be released following the current pilot testing.

“We are continuously looking for ways to make our customers’ lives easier and to make banking a seamless part of their daily lives,” said Magnus Taljaard, head of digital customer solutions at Standard Bank.

“With our smart watch app we are providing greater choice to customers about how they would like to stay in control of their finances.”

Smart watches – made popular with the Samsung Note Smartphones – have not been put to as much use as they could be and it is for this reason that, as the use of these products increases, the bank is also planning to develop their technology with users to make banking available on a number of wearable devices.

“The Apple Watch app will be followed by similar rollouts for Android Wear-enabled watches later in the year,” Taljaard added.

Security, he said, is the most important priority that will be managed by the collaborating companies during the testing phase. In addition, the application will also allow users to track shares and alert them of the biggest market movers.

This application will make major use of new technology to improve banking in the years to come, he said.
