Sandton police receive donation of four new vehicles

MORNINGSIDE - A BUSINESSWOMAN from Bryanston recently donated four brand-new vehicles to the Sandton police.

Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, director of mining company Kalagadi Manganese, saw the need to use her resources to empower the Sandton Police Station. Her generous gesture was honoured at the vehicle handover ceremony that took place at the police station in Morningside.

“We should use whatever resources at our disposal to defend the dignity of our country,” said Mashile-Nkosi.

“Only when the community works with the police can crime be eliminated. We must make South Africa a better place to live in.”

Among the guests invited to the handover ceremony was MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane who said the donated vehicles serve as a positive contribution towards the fight against crime.

“We are gathered here today to bear testimony to the good work of a South African citizen,” added Nkosi-Malobane.

She said the community as a whole should strive to let criminals know that they will not succeed. “I challenge other business people to also donate handsomely,” said Nkosi-Malobane.

Station commander Brigadier Allan Billings said, “From our side, we give our heartfelt gratitude. As far as the new vehicles are concerned, we are going to use them to the benefit of the community.”

Sandton police’s Major Anna Davids explained that two of the vehicles will be used by the sector commanders, and the other two vehicles will be used for crime prevention by Sandton police.

“The cars will add a great deal towards police visibility within the community,” said Davids.

Wendy Vorster-Robertson, the Sandton Community Police Forum chairperson, said the donation was a public call to everyone else who is able to use their resources to benefit the community, to follow suit.
