Passionate drama pupil from Wendywood excels

WENDYWOOD - A PASSIONATE drama pupil from Wendywood, Cassidy Gordon won four prestigious trophies for her performance in dramatic arts.

 

Gordon, in Grade 11, was announced as a pupil of excellence at King David High School Victory Park. She has been involved in drama and oral communication through the guidance of the Roz Jaff Studio of Speech and Drama.

Gordon’s mother, Jodi, said her daughter had demonstrated extraordinary talent and commitment. “She excelled in all the sections she entered,” she said.

She added that Gordon was awarded four distinction results in the junior exams of the South African College of Speech and Drama under the auspices of The Trinity of London.

“Cassidy’s success in the recent Johannesburg Speech and Drama Festivals is the culmination of her commitment, dedication and delight in performance arts,” said Jodi.

Gordon won the following trophies:

  •  The Shirley Bloch Trophy which is awarded to the best Grade 10, 11 or 12 pupil in the individual poetry speaking section
  •  The Patti Kramer Trophy for the best senior in the public speaking section
  •  The Patricia Grady Trophy for a monologue from the classical repertoire which are monologues written prior to 1900
  •  The Dorothy Gardner Award for a dramatic programme consisting of a monologue and one other item for performers from 16 to 18 years old.

Jodi added that Gordon was also awarded two additional distinctions in the contemporary monologue section and the dramatised poetry speaking section.
