Give blood this June and save a life

WOODMEAD - JUNE is South Africa's National Blood Donor Month.

Join 3M Nexcare South Africa (Minnesota, Mining and Manufacturing) and the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) and give blood in the Give Campaign in Woodmead.

Ivor Hobbs, regional marketing manager SANBS said all it takes is an hour to make an effort to save lives of people in dire need of blood. He explained, “This year 3M aims to beat last year’s record of 33.6 million millilitres of blood. We are aiming for 38.4 million millilitres with the inclusion of the Western Province Blood Transfusion Services who are joining this campaign.”

Hobbs added that blood shortages in winter cause tough times for the South African National Blood Service. “The SANBS requires 3 000 units of blood on any given day to maintain stock levels. We are grateful for the support from 3M Nexcare and our donors,” he said.

People are encouraged to donate blood regularly, at least every 56 days. Donors will be rewarded with limited-edition plasters to demonstrate this year’s theme, Culture of Giving. Pledgers and donors are urged to embrace the campaign by posting a selfie in support of the cause and to challenge friends and family to do the same by using Facebook.com/Nexcaresa

To donate blood go to 3M head office on 146A Kelvin Drive on 8 June at 11am.
