A chance of a lifetime for five lucky African children

JOBURG - Five African children and their guardians might get themselves a once in a lifetime experience to to become a part of rugby history by delivering the official match ball onto the field at Rugby World Cup 2015 in London.

This was announced by DHL, the official logistics partner for Rugby World Cup 2015, as they launched the DHL Match Ball Delivery competition across sub-Saharan Africa. This forms part of the company’s global competition where 48 lucky children aged eight to 15 from all over the world will win the opportunity to deliver the official match ball onto the field of play at World Cup matches.

The company’s Megan Collinicos said to enter participants must visit the DHL Africa Facebook page and enter via the competition app.

Collinicos said, “Upload a photo or video of your child showing their enthusiasm for the game and write a short motivation on why they deserve the spot.

“We have an additional competition running for DHL Express account and cash customers, and they can enter using their DHL Express waybill number.”

She said all Facebook entries would be gathered and voted for by the DHL Express African management board based on the creativity of the submission.

Responding to the question that the majority of African children were from poor communities and don’t have access to the Internet, Collinicos said, “As the competition is open to any person living in sub-Saharan Africa, we chose to host the competition online for greater reach.

“Internet penetration across the region is also rising steadily each year, therefore we chose this platform based on reach, and the limited time period which the competition is running for.”

The competition on social media will close on 5 June and winners will be drawn on 10 June. The child and adult must have a valid passport and the prize is non-transferable.
