Pupils bid farewell to boy found hanging from tree at St Stithians College

BRYANSTON - BRYANSTON High School pupils held a memorial service at the school to bid farewell to fellow pupil Aubrey Dlodlo (16) who was found hanging from a tree at St Stithians College.

Dlodlo was described as a quiet and reserved guy by one of the pupils, Khanya Khumalo.

“He didn’t talk to everyone but he would make you smile daily,” said Khumalo.

“He was always smiling which made everyone else happy. He was just a nice guy.”

Dlodlo used to participate in cross country, rugby and athletics.

The school collected funds by holding a civvies day in honour of Dlodlo’s memory when the pupils dressed in blue, which was the deceased’s favourite colour. All the money raised from the day will go to Dlodlo’s mother.

The funeral will be held on 23 May in Midrand.

“No one expected this to happen,” said a pupil who did not want to be named.

Apparently Dlodlo drew a couple of disturbing artworks that raised concern about his well-being.

“I don’t think the school wants anyone talking about what happened. He did art at school and he drew a picture of a dagger with the words ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’ on it,” said the pupil.

Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela on behalf of the Randburg police said, “No foul play is suspected at this point. It looks like a suicide and an inquest docket was opened with the Randburg police.”
