Orphans from Afrika-Tikkun get a treat

SANDTON - Varsity College Sandton’s charity initiative, VC Cares, recently hosted 15 orphans for a lunch date.

Each of the 15 children from Afrika-Tikkun were introduced to one VC Cares volunteer who he or she would spend the day with. Oratile Matlapeng from Varsity College Sandton said, “The children arrived on campus and within a matter of minutes, the excitement of seeing the VC Cares volunteers was evident in their eyes.”

He said VC Cares organised lunch for all the children who came to the campus. “A long table filled with McDonald’s Happy Meals was set,” added Matlapeng. “The children enjoyed their meals thoroughly as was evident from the silence during their lunch break.”

Student relations manager Vasanthee Govender added, “We love having the kids here and it’s always a privilege and honour being able to do something like this for the kids. The day ended with emotional, yet happy goodbyes from both the children and the VC Cares members.”

Matlapeng said a last thank-you song was sung by the children showing their appreciation to Varsity College for treating them to a lovely day.
