Blanket challenge extended

JOBURG - South African schools have been given more time to give back after Cell C 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day has extended the deadline for the campaign’s school challenge.

Spokesperson for the campaign, Suzanne Weil, said due to an overwhelming demand from participating schools, blankets must now be completed and delivered by Mandela Day on 18 July.

The challenge will see schools throughout the country take part in the campaign and stand a chance to win R650 000 in cash prizes. A total of 21 schools stand in line to win one of R21 000 prizes sponsored by Cell C.

Head of the Cell C Foundation, Suzette van der Merwe said, “It has been heartwarming to see the response and wonderful contributions made by schools around the country to the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day project. However, many schools asked for the deadline to be extended as holidays and exams meant they could not contribute as many as they wanted to.”

Each school is required to:

  •  Donate a minimum of 21 handmade blankets measuring 140cm x 180cm to 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day by 18 July 18
  •  In addition, the participating school who produces the most single bed-sized blankets (140 x 180cm) with a minimum amount of at least 670 blankets will win the R210 000 prize money donated by 67 Blankets founder Carolyn Steyn
  •  Each blanket must have a complete entry form attached, which can be downloaded from www.67blankets.co.za
