Construction to disrupt traffic on the N1 for 3 days

MIDRAND - The construction of the new Bridal Veil Road Overpass Bridge south of Allandale Road interchange, Midrand, is expected to disrupt traffic from 15 to 18 May.

In a statement, South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) spokesperson Vusi Mona said the construction of the new overpass bridge commenced on the 19 November last year and is part of the Waterfall City development by the Attacq Waterfall Investment Company. He added, “The construction of the bridge is necessary to improve traffic flow to Waterfall City and Allandale Road environs. The construction of the bridge support pier in the central median will be completed by 7 May.”

The next construction phase entails the construction of two support piers, one pier between the northbound carriageway and the Allandale off-ramp and another pier between the southbound carriageway and the Allandale on-ramp, which will take about another three months to complete. In order to achieve this, the current lane alignment at the site of the new bridge needs to be moved marginally outward from the median, on both carriageways, in order to provide the necessary work space on both Northbound and Southbound shoulders.

Motorists are requested to take note that traffic on the N1 freeway in the vicinity of the Allandale Road Interchange will be affected:

During this period, five lanes will be reduced to two lanes on the southbound carriageway and six lanes will be reduced to two lanes on the northbound carriageway. Traffic flow on the northbound carriageway off-ramp and southbound carriageway on-ramp will also be affected.

Motorists are asked to keep a look-out for these roadworks during this period, to reduce speed and obey all traffic signs and instructions given by road marshals and traffic officers.

The agency apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused.
