Securitas brings awareness to the community

WENYWOOD - Security company Securitas has been reaching out to the community with a pedestrian safety campaign in an attempt to re-inforce safety on our roads with the first presentation being held at Wendywood High School on 30 April.

Community liaison officer Linda Reeder led the presentation focusing on road safety on the corner of Carnation Street and the Western Service Road in Wendywood.

Reeder said, “The community is really concerned about the kid’s safety on the roads especially in Carnation Road where there is a sharp turn to the right into Western Service Road. Oncoming traffic cannot see the children and the children can certainly not see the oncoming traffic.”

She added that the main problems lies in the fact that the pupils who walk on Carnation Road do not walk in single file, but in a large groups impairing their ability to recognise oncoming traffic and putting them in danger.

In addition to explaining about road safety, Reeder brought pink carnations to draw a worthwhile link between the road in question and Mother’s Day which will be celebrated on 10 May.
