Transforming education in disadvantaged communities

SANDTON - Marsh, an insurance broker and risk management company, recently launched their Boost a School programme.

The company hopes to have an impact on identifying specific risks and finding solutions that best address different needs for different schools.

As part of the programme, the company has adopted four schools including Alexandra High School, Cloetesville High School, Trenance Secondary School and Vukuhambe Secondary, a special needs school.

The programme aims to improve school performance and the quality of education at these schools by investing in developmental interventions.

Jurie Erwee, chief executive at Marsh said, “This is a momentous moment for us. We are committed to sustaining this initiative. We will be making more than a financial contribution towards the initiative but also, we have the skills and the means to empower the schools.” He added that a detailed risk analysis has been outlined for each school, revealing prominent areas of weakness that need to be immediately addressed.

Marsh has also partnered with various groups of people and companies to ensure that the programme benefits the schools. These include the government, the Department of Education, non-governmental organisations and education specialists.

Alexandra High School principal Zoleka Lebelo said she was rallying behind the support of all stakeholders of the programme. “We want the programme to contribute positively to our school,” she added. “So we are 100 percent on board and are committed to the Boost a School programme.”
