Maimed pedestrian calls for help

SANDTON  - Following a horrific accident involving Florida resident and Hyde Park Corner Flight Centre employee Wade Gilmour, who subsequently lost his leg, him and his family have called on the community to help with his mounting hospital bills.

On 2 February, Gilmour made his way from work when he was hit by a wreckless driver on the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and North Road in Hyde Park. His sister-in-law Nicky Lakay said, “He was standing on the sidewalk waiting for public transport on his way home from work when a driver jumped a red robot and he got pinned between the car and pole.”

The accident occurred four days before Gilmour’s 30th birthday which he in turn spent in the hospital.

“He unfortunately lost his left leg in this accident after they had to perform an emergency amputation at Johannesburg General Hospital,” added Lakay.

Due to mounting medical bills and the need for a prosthetic leg, Gilmour and his family have called on the local community to help raise about R200 000 to help him buy a prosthesis and pay for physiotherapy.

Any community members interested in donating money for Gilmour’s cause can contact Nicky Lakay.
