Easter fun for migrant children

SANDOWN - Paul O’Sullivan and Associates hosted an Easter Fun Day for the children from the informal settlement within Innesfree Park, Harris Street in Sandown on 6 April.

A marquee was erected and 30 children received party packs filled with Easter eggs, a colouring book and stationery. They were also be treated to face painting and a clown show.

After they spent their energy on the jumping castle and playing sports games, the children were treated to snacks which included yummy hot dogs and cool drinks.

Melissa Naidu, director of O’Sullivan, said there were approximately 40 migrant families from Limpopo who live at Innesfree Park.

“They have been residing there for the last few years with no proper housing and electricity. These families moved here in pursuit of work opportunities but do not have sufficient income to be able to rent proper homes,” said Naidu.

She added that at the time of Easter reflections, it was important to give back to local communities.

“As a company, we felt that these children should be treated to a special day in the hope that they will understand that the broader community out there does care about them,” said Naidu.

Victor Nobela, a community member who helped co-ordinate the party said, “Paul O’Sullivan sometimes comes through the park and plays with and motivates the kids. When he suggested putting on a kids’ party for Easter, we were over the moon.”

Naidu said the company forked out tens of thousands of rand for the party and she took time to pay tribute to Tiger-Brands’ Viv Brandon who arranged the donation of Easter eggs and goody-bags.

Brandon said, “When Paul came to us with a request for goody-bags we were only too pleased to assist with this worthy cause.”
