Man sets shack on fire in Marlboro

MARLBORO - An argument led to a fire that affected 58 other shacks and injured many.

This according to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the Bramley police spokesperson, who said the suspect set the shack on fire after an argument broke out during a game of cards with the owner of the shack.

“The owner was taken to Alexandra Clinic and treated for his injuries from the fire,” explained Maphakela. “All his belongings were burnt to ashes. Other shacks were affected and also caught fire.”

He said firefighters and emergency services were at the scene and attended to the fire and the people who were injured.

Maphakela said the total amount of damage amounted to R30 000.

The suspect was captured by the police and detained. He is expected to appear in court soon.
