Call to warn your security company of guard dogs

JOBURG - ADT is appealing to homeowners to inform the security company if they own guard dogs.

Theunis Kotze, general manager at Subscriber Inland said, “While many homeowners in South Africa have guard dogs as a security measure, they can pose difficulties for security companies tasked with protecting the property.”

He said that recently they had seen an increase in the number of incidents in which reaction officers were bitten by aggressive dogs.

“We rely on our clients to tell us whether they have dogs, especially vicious dogs, at their premises. While our officers are trained to deal with vicious dogs, their safety remains a priority, as does the safety of your family pets. According to ADT Standard Operating Procedures, officers will not enter premises where there are vicious dogs,” Kotze said.

He urged people to remember to update their security provider about dogs on their premises.

“If you have a big guard dog, have just got a new dog or perhaps your puppy has grown up and now poses a threat to our officers, you must let our monitoring centre know so that we can update your profile accordingly to ensure that our officers are informed of your dogs in the event of an emergency,” he said.
