Residents warned against bogus maintenance men

JOBURG - Bramley police have issued a stern warning to Sector 3 and 4 residents about bogus maintenance men robbing homes.

This after a recent incident in Strathavon where suspects arrived at a house pretending to be maintenance workers.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley police, the three suspects told staff that they were there to fix the geyser.

“As soon as they gained entrance, however, they pointed their guns at the domestic worker and the garden employee and proceeded to rob the house of valuables,” he said.

Maphakela confirmed that the suspects made off with electrical appliances.

He appealed to residents tell their employees of any companies that may be coming to work at the house. “Homeowners must inform their employees if anyone will be coming to do repairs, and leave the company’s full details,” he said.

Maphakela added that employees should not open for anyone claiming to be a maintenance person, but must rather alert the police or security company of any suspicious persons.
