Recurring pothole a cause for concern

BRYANSTON - A problematic pothole near the Bryan Park Shopping Centre has been a cause of frustration for motorists.

The pothole is located on the corner of Cumberland Avenue and Grosvenor Road and is a result of a leakage which Johannesburg Water has been trying to fix.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, operations manager: marketing and communications for Johannesburg Roads Agency, confirmed that the site was inspected by the entity and explained the cause for the recurring pothole.

“[Our] team has inspected the site and found the reason for the re-emergence is due to a recurring pipe leakage which keeps filling the road with water, undoing the repairs,” she said.

She also explained that this was a reinstatement issue whereby any entity, in this case, Johannesburg Water, applied for a wayleave from the roads agency which would allow a work order to be issued for a service request.

“The agency will then be able to follow up on the areas the entity was working on and make the necessary repairs. This is the standard procedure,” she said.

She added that as a temporary measure, the pothole had been filled with sand and a request had been sent to Johannesburg Water for assistance in repairing the leak in order to allow the agency to begin with permanent repairs to the road.
