UPDATE: Dug up driveway neglected by Joburg Water

SANDTON - Joburg Water has not been back to a site to finish a job after they dug up a driveway.

This according to resident Becky Smith who shared a photo of the dug up driveway on the Sandton Chronicle Facebook page.

Smith added that that the pipe which was supposed to be fixed was still leaking. “I have over eight reference numbers and still Joburg Water hasn’t been back to the site to finish the job,” said Smith. “They are useless.”

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) explained the procedures followed by the roads agency and Joburg Water regarding dug up pavements and roads.

“Joburg Water or another entity applies for a wayleave from the JRA,” she said. “After receiving the wayleave application, JRA approves it and issues a work order for the service request. The JRA will then be able to follow up on the areas Joburg Water was working on and make the necessary repairs.”

Peters-Scheepers added that if this procedure was not followed it became difficult for the JRA to know which areas required repair work, unless the agency’s inspectors spotted them and escalated the matter.

No comment was received from Joburg Water by the time of publication.
