Bryanston High joins Mandela blanket drive

BRYANSTON - Bryanston High School is challenging other schools to contribute to the 'goodwool' drive of donating a record-setting 21 000 blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

Suzanne Weil, public relations officer for Ninesquared Communications and Events explained the magnitude of the blanket drive, which is aimed at honouring Mandela’s legacy.

“This year the campaign wants to produce 21 000 blankets by 21 April this year and set a world record in the process,” she said.

Weil added that the campaign would also be supported by well-known personalities such as DJ Fresh, Johnny Clegg, Trevor Noah and Miss South Africa, Zipozakhe Zokufa.

She said the blanket drive was a way to get young South Africans involved in such initiatives, and schools which enter stand a chance to win R650 000 in cash prizes.

The challenge will run until 15 April and is open to all schools across the country.
