Elderly woman tied up and robbed in Morningside

MORNINGSIDE MANOR - An elderly woman was left shaken following a robbery at her house.

The 65-year-old resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, explained her ordeal, saying it took place on the evening of 27 February when she noticed something amiss with her solar lights outside.

“I went to investigate and as I was standing outside, two men approached me and dragged me back into my house and proceeded to tie me up,” she said.

The shaken resident said the suspects then demanded money and after realising she had very little on her, proceeded to take her valuables including jewellery, laptops and cellphones.

The ordeal only ended when she managed to lock herself in the toilet, at which point the suspects made off and she was able to alert the neighbours, who then contacted the police.

Constable Matome Tlamela, spokesperson of the Sandton police, confirmed that a case of house robbery was opened at the station.

“At this stage, no one has been arrested, but the police are busy investigating the matter,” she said.
