Councillor Kekana urges residents to be more proactive

WENDYWOOD - Residents should be more proactive within the community and put pressure on authorities.

This was the advice from Ward 109 councillor, Lillian Kekana at the Sandton Community Police Forum Sector 4 meeting.

The meeting took place in Wendywood and issues discussed included street closures which Kekana discussed at length.

“When it comes to the issue of street closures, communities must follow the legal process otherwise much money is wasted. Street closures do decrease crime, but can [also] create aggravation,” she said.

Kekana also highlighted the issue of resources, especially regarding the visibility of Metro police, and urged a stronger attendance at meetings.

Andrew McMurray, chairperson of Sector 4 crime forum thanked the police for their role in the removal of illegal squatters in Buccleuch recently. The crime report by the sector commander was also discussed.

The next meeting is scheduled to take place on 26 March at Cesco’s restaurant in Kelvin.
