Seven arrested in R15 million drug bust at Sandton Hotel

SANDTON - Seven suspects were arrested in a R15 million drug bust on 26 February at a Sandton Hotel.

The group was arrested following a tip-off received by the Hawks and the Johannesburg Organised Crime Unit. Spokesperson for the Hawks Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said, “Police had found a 42kg of meth, commonly known as tik, in one of the rooms at a hotel in Sandton.”

He said swift investigation led to the arrest of four foreign nationals, one local man and two local women.

Mulaudzi added, “One suspect was found with a further 14kg of tik in his vehicle. The total value of the recovered drugs is valued at R15 million. One vehicle was also seized.”

The suspects, aged between 30 and 51, are set to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 2 March.
