Coleraine Drive hijackers on motorbikes

RIVERCLUB - Watch out for hijackers on motorbikes on Coleraine Drive.

This according to a Riverclub resident who did not want to be named. He was almost a victim of a hijacking outside of his driveway.

There were three suspects on motorbikes that followed him to his home and surrounded the car as he tried to open the gate. The three bikes each had a box on the back. One bike was orange and black, the other bike was red and the third bike had blue detailing.

“I thankfully parked on the road rather than the driveway while I opened the gate,” he explained. “One bike parked in front of me, the second parked behind me and the third one parked on the side of the car. I accelerated and they moved away but they followed me for a few kilometres.”

He said he drove off but when he returned to his home the bikers were still waiting on the road. “I drove off and came back 10 minutes later to find them gone.”

The incident was not reported to the police, however, he said the security company was informed of what had happened. “The security company did extra patrols that night,” he added.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp said if a resident felt they were being followed, they should drive towards the nearest police station or public area such as a garage. He said residents should also have the police station number or their sector policing vehicles’ number on hand so they could contact the officials immediately.

“It is very sad that we have to live in prisons and have to be wary every time we go out,” added Earp. “We need to ensure there is visible policing in the area so that residents can feel safe, or at least confident that should they need help, the police will react immediately.”
